In the interest of helping people get started with winsock software, I have on
several occasions posted an article entitled "Windows and tcp/ip for internet
access" to this group and others. Now the good news about winsock should reach
a much wider audience through the publication of my article in O'Reilly
Associates Global Network Navigator. This is an excellent periodical published
in the World Wide Web. It is aimed at the general reader who is interested in
networking.

well thanks to a new hard drive i installed today (my last one was crashed by
executor an it was too small anyways) my siter is back up.
in the winsock dir you should find a copy of winirc. For some reason when i
use it i get a Unknown command  after everything i typed. someone e-mailed me
saying i should try another server. dose anyone know a server that works well
with win irc?

We have been able to run unifAce successfully with Lan-work-group and
with Wollongong's Pathway.  But we are trying to actually run unifAce
using winsock.dll, without any other TCP/IP transports.

Our reasoning is simply that Trumpet Winsock is less expensive than
Wollongong or Lan-work-group.

It is nice to know that there are other people out there using unifAce.

yes. there is wtel.exe which is availiable in winapps.zip and there is
trmptel.exe(or zip i don't rember)
should you need to aquire these programs. try

If that is the whole problem, edit qvtnet.ini and change NUMLOCK=1 to
NUMLOCK=0.

Its not hard. :-(

Two approaches. You can use DIS_PKTx.DOS, an NDIS "shim", that loads as an
NDIS stack, but presents a Packet Driver interface to apps that require it.

Or use can use PKTDLL, which loads over the DLL interface that PathWorks
provides. (That's DLL for Data Link Layer, not Dynamic Link Library).
PKTDLL piggybacks onto DLLNDIS. It's easiest to configure, (no changes to
CONFIG.SYS or PROTOCOL.INI) and it's smaller, but you may be limited by the
number of "portals" that DLLNDIS provides. (I haven't had any problems yet).

One place you should be able to find both of these is netlab2.usu.edu,
but I don't recall the specific directory. I'm not sure if the most
recent versions are there, but they'll get you started anyway.

Does anyone know of a news server (not client) for winsock? I'm trying to set
up some local newsgroups to which I need to control access, so don't want to
use the campus VAX...

Hi there.

Once again, my sys admin really f***ed my system up. One of the
things destroyed was my Newsreader configuration.

I had some folders with some really important messages in them.
I can't find them now. Where are they located?
I use Trumpet for Windows rev 1.0 B.
